About Me

Name: Michelle Florea

Anticipated Major(s): Graphic Design
Education and Life: To Be a Graphic Designer

Ever since I was a young child,  the one thing that caught my eye the most was the computer. The images that streamed the screen, and showed many different advertisements and arts, were very eye pleasing.  I very quickly adapted to the computer and tried to replicate, with own personalization ,these images that I have seen. I found a great love for creating images that helped others personalize, advertise, and give themselves a new name.  All this tied into one, led me to want to become a Graphic Designer.

The images that I have seen throughout the years from club promotions, organizations, and sports clubs, were always intriguing in how they actually made these images. I always wanted to find out how an image was made, and what was the process in doing so. When I was very young, about 9 or 10 years old or so, I encountered my first experience with creating personalized goods. I saw one of my father’s business cards from his job, and thought, “ I want to design one that resembles who I am!” From that point, I had created my worst printed work. It was a tiny little group of credit-card sized “business” cards, for my pretend corporation that were white and with minimal design. It wasn’t anything fancy, but I felt accomplished that I could design something to show who I was through a little card. At that moment, I realized that I would want to be working with this type of technology from that point on.

Another point in my life where I felt this major was my calling was when I was able to create something I though was extremely difficult. I remember seeing some type of design that incorporated a type of aurora borealis effect, for a club flyer, that seemed very difficult to replicate. I soon looked up how to make one in Photoshop, and was able to create the type of effect desired for the project that I was working on at the time.  After that was done, I had realized that I can and will do this.

Not only do I want to create images that express who I am, but I want to help others define themselves as well. To me, being a Graphic Designer doesn’t mean just making images and that’s it. It means creating an image with time and precision, that shows and identifies the person or company that it belongs to. It provides a new window for personalization and customization  for many people, jobs, and sellable items.  All in all, to being Graphic Designer in my eyes, means helping  others out by creating and finding ways to express who they are through public advertising.
